Day 1 Johannesburg to Kruger National Park. (Letaba Rest Camp)
Today your 9 Day Kruger National Park Safari begins, a journey that promises unparalleled wildlife encounters and the rich tapestry of South Africa’s natural beauty. The adventure kicks off with a 7:40 am scheduled transfer that departs from O.R. Tambo International Airport. The transfer will ensure safe travel over the 6 hour drive to a small town bordering Kruger National Park called Phalaborwa.
You will meet your Wild Planet Safari guide and chef in Phalaborwa and enjoy an own expense lunch at a local restaurant before we enter Kruger through Phalaborwa Gate.
You will then enjoy your first Safari Drive of the Tour, winding through Mopani and Bushwillow woodlands, a haven for magnificent elephants and buffalo, each moment is an opportunity for wildlife sightings and photographic memories.
The journey ends at Letaba, a camp nestled on the banks of the Letaba River. Arriving around 6:00 pm, we will check in and you can settle into your traditional Rondawel, a charming thatched African hut offering 2 single beds, air conditioning, and a private washroom with a shower and toilet.
Letaba Camp, one of our favorites, is not just a place to stay—it’s an experience. Enjoy sweeping views of the Letaba River, explore the Park Shop for unique souvenirs, and unwind by the swimming pool. A highlight is The Great Elephant Hall, a museum dedicated to the grand elephants that have graced Kruger National Park.
Over the next 2 nights, Letaba becomes your home. Delight in a traditional South African dinner, skillfully prepared over an open fire, immersing you in the essence of local flavors.

We’ll pause for a delightful breakfast at a scenic picnic site, allowing you to soak in the serenity of the surroundings. The slow drive back to Letaba promises a leisurely journey, offering additional opportunities to spot wildlife and appreciate the natural wonders of Kruger National Park.
Upon returning to camp, take advantage of the various facilities that Letaba has to offer, providing a perfect respite during the midday heat. Day 3 Kruger National Park. (Satara Rest Camp)
The day unfolds with an early morning sunrise drive along the Letaba River, this time veering eastward. Traverse this picturesque landscape, home to a shy yet impressive pride of lions. Our experienced guides have successfully tracked them in the past, offering a glimpse into their elusive world. Following the captivating drive, we return to camp for a hearty breakfast, fueling up for the day’s journey.
Post-breakfast, we bid farewell to Letaba and set our sights further southward toward our next destination, Satara. En route, pass through open savannah grasslands, a haven for large herds of Zebra and Wildebeest. Upon reaching Satara, check-in and relish a freshly prepared lunch, setting the stage for an afternoon of relaxation.
Satara, nestled in the grasslands of Kruger, is a haven for grazing animals, offering an excellent backdrop for wildlife viewing. A waterhole just outside the camp adds to the allure, providing opportunities to spot animals even while at camp.
Your accommodation for the night is the traditional Rondawel, featuring 2 single beds, a ceiling fan, air conditioning, a private washroom with a toilet and shower, a fridge, and a small patio—an authentic African retreat.
As evening falls, dinner becomes an individual affair at the camp restaurant, allowing you to savor the flavors of the region (own expense).
The night unfolds with a shared night drive guided by a trained Kruger ranger, providing a unique opportunity to witness the nocturnal wonders of the park. The area is renowned for lion sightings, making it a hotspot for capturing the majesty of these magnificent creatures.
As we navigate the N’wanetsi River road, keep a keen eye out for the plethora of wildlife that calls this area home, from white rhinos to large herds of buffalo, blue wildebeest, zebra, kudu, and giraffes.
A breakfast stop at the picnic site, overlooking the Sweni River gorge, offers a chance to savor your meal while immersed in the stunning natural surroundings.
Our journey continues through an area renowned for housing one of Kruger’s super prides—an impressive assembly of 20 lions. The return to camp for lunch provides a moment to relax and indulge in the camp’s facilities, creating a perfect interlude during the day’s adventures.
In the afternoon, our exploration continues along the Sweni road, seeking more lion sightings and, with a stroke of luck, a glimpse of the elusive wild dog. As the sun sets and the day’s excitement unfolds, dinner is expertly prepared upon our return to camp.

Day 5 Kruger National Park. (Skukuza Rest Camp)
Embark on the exhilarating Day 5 of our immersive 9 Day Kruger National Park Safari, promising an unforgettable adventure amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Satara and Skukuza regions.
The day commences with an early rendezvous for coffee, setting the stage for a morning exploration of the open grasslands in Satara—a perfect habitat for the majestic Cheetah. Our goal is to encounter one of these magnificent cats, and we’ll diligently scour the landscape in our quest.
After the exhilarating morning drive, we return to camp for a hearty breakfast, preparing for the next leg of our journey. The road to Skukuza, our next destination, spans 90 kilometers, offering ample opportunities for spotting lions along the way. En route, we pause at two iconic water points renowned for attracting a diverse array of animal species, providing an ideal setting for memorable wildlife encounters.
Arriving at Skukuza around 1 pm, we drop you off by the picturesque Sabie River, inviting you to enjoy an own-expense lunch at the camp restaurant.
Skukuza, the largest camp in Kruger and the park’s administrative capital is a haven nestled along the banks of the famous Sabie River, adorned with captivating riverine forest trees. Your accommodation for the night is the traditional African Rondawels, featuring twin beds, a private washroom with a shower and toilet, a ceiling fan, a fridge, air conditioning, and a small patio.

As we navigate this terrain, we hope to encounter the majestic elephant, the formidable white rhino, and with a stroke of luck, the elusive black rhino—an exceptional sighting in this region.

Day 9 Kruger National Park to Johannesburg
The morning is marked by one last safari, a journey filled with anticipation as we venture along the Crocodile River. In the soft glow of the rising sun, we search for any predators making their retreat, with hopes of a final surprise from Kruger’s diverse inhabitants. If luck is on our side, we might catch a glimpse of the resident pack of wild dogs, known to operate in the expansive area around Berg en Dal—a fitting grand finale to our safari adventure.
Upon our return, a hearty breakfast is served, providing an opportunity to relive the memories and share stories of the remarkable sightings we’ve experienced. Following breakfast, we’ll take you to the departure point for the return transfer from Kruger to Johannesburg.
As the journey draws to a close, you’ll arrive in Johannesburg between 17:00 and 18:00. It’s essential to note that if you have flights on this day, international flights should not be scheduled before 19:00, and domestic flights should be booked for after 20:00.
